Eagle on the wall

eagle statue

Here’s another strange statue on a wall, at the corner of rue de l’Aspic and rue de la Violette. It has probably been a part of some ancient building before it ended up on this wall. Similar statues can be found here and there in the city, all headless: some say that it was the Visigoths, the enemies of the Romans, who mutilated the statues, while others say it was done by (the men of) Charles Martel, the ruler of Francia.
