Zanotta’s coming

zanottaZanotta is an Italian design company, apparently very popular in Nîmes. They seem to have an exhibition coming up, in the furniture shop Domus. The picture is taken during the feria, which explains the table and the benches… Otherwise you will find this view at Place de la Calade in front of the Nîmes’ theatre. The exhib will run from Sep 27, 2013 until Mar 26, 2014. Entrance is on the other side of the building, at 11, rue de l’Horloge.

Morning coffee at a café

cafedesbeauxartsTourists are gone, at least most of them, and it’s time to get back to the normal life. The Bar des Beaux Arts at Place aux Herbes in the heart of the city is a popular place to have a coffee – or an apero in the evening.

Quiet feria day

The 61st Feria de Pentecôte of Nîmes has started! First events were held in the morning, aand in the evening the first corrida. Otherwise it’s still quiet. I went for a short walk in the Jardins and the city center and took a few photos. The real thing starts from tomorrow, so far everything is more or less in a waiting mode.

Waiting for a change

square in front of st baudile churchHere is a crossing that is waiting for a big change. On the left, yet not visible, is the church St Baudile, and behind me the Roman gateway, Porte d’Auguste. The beautiful building on the right is a part of the University of Nîmes, the site Carmes – only the façade has been saved and all the rest is modern –, while the empty lot is a site of a coming apartement building.

There are already plans for the square to be remodeled, so a few years later the view is probably completely different!

Reading man

reading manAnother favourite statue: Le jardinier du mont des oliviers, or the Gardener of the Mount of Olives by a French artist, Martial Raysse. The statue and the mount of olives is part of the beautiful Place d’Assas, remade (?) in 1989, with more statues and fountains. And the book that the man is reading under the olive trees, is said to be the book of wisdom.

Spring is definitely here: at the moment the foliage of the micocouliers is amazingly light green!
